| SUMMARY: |
Through a combination of instructor-led discussions and workshops this seminar will demonstrate the functional capabilities of the S/390-based e-business strategy that incorporates WebSphere, OS/390 JDK and Java Connectors for your existing OS/390 legacy data structures. Through this course each student will become familiar with the OS/390 Java implementation, role Applets and servlets, use of JDBC and configuration and customization of the WebSphere Application Server. |
| AUDIENCE: |
System programmers, Java application developers, programmers and other technical professionals that will be responsible for developing Java applications in the OS/390 environment. |
| PREREQUISITES: |
Each student should have a basic understanding of the Windows environment and a fundamental knowledge of the Java application programming language. |

- Understand the role of JDK in the OS/390 environment
- Define the multi-tiered models for OS/390 Java
- Illustrate the capabilities of VisualAge for Java Enterprise Edition
- Deploy Java servlets and applets to OS/390
- Understand the role of WebSphere Application Server
- Depict the use of JDBC for accessing OS/390 relational structures
- Define the role of security for running Java applications and servlets
- Illustrate the role of the Workload Manager
- Understand the servlet/JSP model in the OS/390 realm
- Discuss the connections to existing IMS, CICS and DB2 legacy data
- Explore the role of Java Native Interface (JNI)
