| SUMMARY: |
This course is intended to introduce attendees to the architecture and administration of web servers and application servers using the Oracle10g Application Server platform.
The course combines in-depth discussions with numerous hands-on implementation exercises. Differences and capabilities between the R1, R2 and R3 releases of Oracle Application Server 10g are all included.

| AUDIENCE: |
Oracle application server administrators. Database administrators, information systems architects, and Java and web-based application developers interested in becoming familiar with the application server platforom. |
| PREREQUISITES: |
- A background in Web Development, server administration and security will help attendees.
- Unix, Linux and/or Windows O/S familiarity.
- Knowledge of XML and Java.

| APPROACH: |
Hands-on, Instructor led workshops. Depending on the environment available, a dedicated Linux box for each attendee will be used. |
| OBJECTIVES: |
- Describe the role of web and application servers in modern systems infrastructures.
- Discuss and understand Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
- Understand how the Application Server supports industry standards for Java, ESI, LDAP, SSL and many others.
- Install and configure Application Server instances, including the Infrastructure and Middle Tier platforms.
- Startup, shutdown and perform other basic operations for services and components of the Application Server.
- Become familiar with the most common Web-based, GUI-based and text-based administration tools available for the AS components.
- Configure the HTTP Server, including virtual host definitions.
- Configure and monitor the Web Cache and deploy a new, cached web site.
- Learn basic troubleshooting skills, using facilities found within the Application Server.
- Perform minimal access to and exercise of the primary Middle Tier components such as Business Intelligence Reports and Discoverer, Portal, Wireless.
- Troubleshoot configuration problems using Application Server utilities and logs and operating system and network facilities.
- Configure critical instance components used for identity management, such as Single Sign-on (SSO), Certificate Authority and Oracle Internet Directory (OID).
- Use the Portal interface to perform Application Server administration and consider the architecture of the Portal environment in providing a user-interface to application services.
