History:  Richard Wisler is Technology Director at SyPort Systems, Inc. where he guides SyPort’s technical strategy in implementing leading-edge technology tools, solutions and consulting, focusing on Web Services using both J2EE and .NET technologies. He has more than 25 years of large-scale software design, development, and support experience, including real-time process control systems for Exxon, integrated Network Management systems for AT&T/Bell Labs, and Web-Based On-Line Banking systems for several large retail banks, among many others.

Dick’s C and UNIX expertise was honed by 10 years at Bell Labs, and his development team there was among the first to use C++ in production network support systems. Since the late 90’s, he’s worked heavily with Java, and lately with it’s enterprise-class extensions, helping his teams realize the potential that languages such as Java and C# provide – by supporting component-based and service-oriented architectures – in developing software that’s correct, reliable, re-usable, and maintainable.

In addition to his years of software development and development process consulting, Dick’s expertise in UNIX/Linux administration and application performance and reliability analysis has given him the opportunity to work with the Professional Services organizations of major hardware and software vendors, to help ensure the success of their large corporate and Government customers in enterprise-scale software integration and platform migration projects.

As a development manager and application architect, Dick is convinced that better applications and today’s fast-paced development require developers that know not only how to write code that works, but also understand the best practices and patterns for using their tools, as well as the patterns to avoid. He enthusiastically brings that philosophy and his personal experience into every class he teaches.
