| History: | John has spent almost his entire career to date involved in various aspects of knowledge transfer, whether that is direct face-to-face training and instructing, through the production of tutorials or via his books. Combined with his extensive experience of building real world systems, he is able to ground any engagement on solid foundations as well as provide a suitable educational experience.
John is a highly experienced Java, SOA and Agile Methods consultant, mentor, trainer and software engineer. He has an in-depth knowledge of Java, J2EE and related technologies having written Springer’s best selling Java for Practitioners and Guide to J2EE books (2 of his 11 books). His most recent book, Agile Software Construction focuses on the application of agile methods within larger projects and organisations and was published in 2006. He is also currently the Java columnist for the Developer section for the online Register web site (www.regdeveloper.co.uk). Recently he wrote one of the tutorials on the Tuscany SCA site (a key technology in the creation of Java based SOA solutions). He also produced the popular PlanetJava site containing a free set of Java resources (and still available as http://www.midmarsh.co.uk/planetjava).
John has provided commercial training courses since 1995 and has been giving Java training courses since 1997. He has acted as a trainer for Sun providing freelance training courses for Sun from 1997 to 2000. He was also Technical Director of a Java Knowledge Transfer company from 1998 to 2005 during which time he wrote and subsequently gave Java training courses to the Oxford University Press, the Bank of America and Oracle Corp., amongst many others.
