| History: | Joel possesses a strong IT background with 30 years experience in Technical Education. He graduated with honors from the City College of New York (Bachelors of Engineering (Electrical)). After years planning and installing radar, navaids and ground-to-air communication equipment across the east coast for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Joel relocated to Oklahoma City to train the FAA's engineers and technicians at the FAA Academy at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center.
At the FAA Academy, Joel was an instructor, course manager, course writer and mentor to younger instructors. His initial subjects included Radar Principles and various courses in Radar Equipment Maintenance. But, he soon branched out to computer subjects. Many of the language courses taught by the FAA were written by Joel (including c, Tal, Tacl, Ada, and Fortran). He also wrote sections of the FAA’s network curriculum as well as the complete UNIX curriculum. As course manager for the UNIX curriculum, he was responsible for configuring and administering the classroom computer environment. Graduate studies in computers science as well as commercial training brought him certification as a RedHat Certified Engineer, RedHat Certified Examiner and Solaris Certified System Administrator.
Over the last 6 years Joel traveled the county teaching Linux Courses for various venders including IBM. The courses included RedHat curriculum which prepares for certification as a RHCE (RH033, RH133 and RH253) as well as Linux courses written by IBM |
